Fruit of the Spirit – Theme for the Year

Fruit of the Spirit – Theme for the Year

Martin Luther King said: “Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of education” and Theodore Roosevelt said: “To educate a person in the mind but not in the morals is to educate a menace to society”. Clearly, character education is exceptionally important for our children, and this is an aspect that we, at Wetpups, are trying to emphasise as we realise how essential it is for our boys’ future success. Our mission, vision and values point to the importance of character development in growing our boys to become the best they can be for the world. The Jubilee Centre...

Alumni Visits

Alumni Visits

In February, old boy Matthew Pearce (1982) came talk to the Grade 1s about his days at WPPS. Water saving was the name of the game at the beginning of the year, and the Grade 7s were involved in a solutions-based water-saving workshop with old boy David Perrott (2003). The boys came up with innovative ways in which they could save water. They were then trained to share their findings with the Grade 4s. Later in March, the Grade 1s had a history lesson with past staff member and past parent, Sue Cooke. Thanks, Sue, for inspiring the boys. Kyle...

Dillyn inspired the boys and encouraged them to have fun, make friends, never to give up on their dreams, and above all to be a team player! Peter Rickards  (staff 2003-2005)

PETER RICKARDS (staff 2003-2005) We are sad to learn of the passing of Peter Rickards on 19th February after a short illness. Peter, who had been headmaster of Somerset House Prep School, came to help out with IT lessons in 2003 and stayed for a very happy three years. His gentle manner and deep interest in the wellbeing of his pupils were appreciated by all who knew him. Our condolences go to his daughter, son, and extended family.

Sadly deceased – Ian Brown (WPPS 1947 – 1950)

IAN BROWN (WPPS 1947 – 1950) We are sad to have to report the recent death of Ian (John Lindsey) Brown. Although his career was in accountancy, Ian had a lifelong interest in the natural environment, and botany in particular. This interest might have been born at Wetpups, though not necessarily through any academic endeavour. It was just that the boarders’ food at the time was so dire that Ian asked permission to create his own vegetable garden, to supplement his diet – certainly an unusual request from a 12-year-old boy.  Nevertheless, he was allocated a small patch in the...

Deceased Staff

Some of you may remember past staff Robyn Davies, Faith Williams and Elspeth Wilson   Robyn Davies (staff 1972-1981 and 1996-2006): It is with shock and sadness that we learnt of the passing of Robyn, in September, following a short illness. Robyn joined her husband Lawrie (staff 1969 – 1981) at Wetpups as a Form 3 and Art teacher. Innovative and inspirational, she was involved in many areas of school life. She ran Scripture Union and a Bible study group for the domestic staff. A superb singer herself, she co-produced many musicals. On her return to WPPS, she started a...
